Japan is one of the most successful football Nations in Asia, The Men’s team have qualified for the last six consecutive FIFA World Cups with second round advancements in 2002, 2010 & 2018, and having won the AFC Asian Cup a record four times in 1992, 2000, 2004 & 2011.The team has also finished second in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The Women’s Japanese National team defeated the United States in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Final in a penalty shootout, thus claiming their first FIFA Women's World Cup title, becoming the first Asian team to do so and only the fourth women's world champions.
They won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and most recently finished second in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The team Under 17 won the World Cup in 2014 and the Under 20 won it in 2018, making Japan the only country to be crowned as World Champions at all three levels.
